2019 Watson the Moose Update

2019 Watson the Moose Update

Today is a milestone. Our little baby moose has been introduced – the first step of introduction to our collection
animals (to the moose we have). Over the last few months he has grown a lot. He is still getting his milk bottles three times a day. And in addition to it he
likes apples, blueberries, carrots, oranges, and of course he ate all the fireweed
in his enclosure. He stripped all the branches of leaves and he was ready to move into the new habitat. So the transition went fairly
well he followed the bottle and food and the animal care assistant all the way
through the field and into the exhibit. We have small paddock in between
two exhibits where we house our moose. One of them has the male
moose, and the other has the two females. And then the space in between is kind of a little corridor, but big enough for baby there. He will spend a few days there until he gets used to the female moose that he’s going to
eventually go in with for the winter before they can join the bull moose in
the main habitat. He first saw the moose and was a bit spooked but then he calmed down and walked into the habitat happily eating on browse and checking things out. He finished his bottle and right now he’s there, getting used to them and they are
quite excited. Especially the females, still running around and doing all kinds of silly things. Hopefully they will welcome him into the group soon. Which I hope is going to happen in the week or so.
