JULY FOURTH IS THE DAY TO CELEBRATE AMERICA’S INDEPENDENCE, MANY DO SO BY LIGHTING OR WATCHING FIREWORKS. THIS YEAR FIREFIGHTERS IN FLOYD COUNTY WANTED TO MAKE SURE FOLKS FROM THEIR COMMUNITY COULD DO JUST THAT… CLOSE TO HOME. WYMT’S ALIX CASPER-PEAK HAS THE STORY. THIS FOURTH OF JULY … FIREFIGHTERS FROM THE LEFT BEAVER FIRE DEPARTMENT WANTED TO GIVE THEIR COMMUNITY A WAY TO CELEBRATE TOGETHER. KIRA THACKER/FIREFIGHT ER “it’s our friends, our co-workers, they’re all here and they’re all together. Our community is together here, it’s not other people’s community” AFTER A YEAR OF PLANNING AND FUNDRAISING THEY BROUGHT THE MINNIE COMMUNITY THEIR VERY OWN FOURTH OF JULY EVENT. Our people have to drive to Martin, to Pikeville, to Prestonsburg and we wanted to bring the fun back home” THE DAY LONG EVENT IS NOT JUST A FIREWORKS SHOW. THACKER “food vendors, inflatables for the kids, face painting, games, live music all day” LOIS CRUM SAYS SHE IS THANKFUL TO LIVE IN AN AREA THAT HAS SUCH A SUPPORTIVE FIRE DEPARTMENT. LOIS CRUM/LIVES IN MINNIE, ATTENDED FOURTH OF JULY EVENT “A lot of kids don’t get the opportunity to get out and go places on the Fourth of July or any other holiday as far as that. It’s really nice we have a firefighter in our community that will put on an event for kids” IT’S AN EVENT FIREFIGHTERS ARE GLAD TO SEE BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER TO CELEBRATE. THACKER “i’m so excited to have everybody here, I hope the day goes wonderful and everyone has fun” AS A COMMUNITY SPENDS THE DAY TOGETHER BEFORE LIGHTING UP THE NIGHT. IN FLOYD COUNTY, ALIX CASPER-PEAK, WYMT MOUNTAIN NEWS. OFFICIALS PLAN TO LIGHT THE FIRST FIREWORK AROUND TEN TONIGHT, THEY SAY THE SHOW WILL LAST ABOUT 30 MINUTES. COMING UP ON MOUNTAIN NEWS
